Major Winter Storm – Archive (Feb 12-13)

Hi Everyone,

Well, another big winter storm has ended.  What a powerful winter storm.  This storm brought record icing over the Deep South to heavy snowfall over Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and up into New England.  What was even more fascinating was all the lightning and thunder reports last night.  This was being caused by a very intense upper level low with the storm.  As this rotated north through last night prolific banding developed on the backside of the storm.  Some reports of 5 inches an hour were observed over Virginia, Maryland and eastern Pennsylvania.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any outdoor videos.  The first three videos describe how the storm was developing.  The one item I did mention about was the storm may produce intense banding on the backside.  Those bands never quite made into the immediate Philadelphia area.  It never quite materialized over South Jersey due to the position of the upper air.  Folks made out very well over portions of Virginia, Maryland and over eastern Pennsylvania.
