Historical Weather Videos – Hurricane Andrew 1992

Hi Everyone,

I came across a great batch of videos put together by moviemagg.  Andrew was a a dangerous category 5 hurricane that hit southern Florida, August 24th, 1992.  What was even more interesting was that this was the only hurricane that hit the US during an El Nino season.

This is a montage of local television media coverage in Miami and from the Weather Channel on Hurricane Andrew which struck Homestead Florida on August 24th 1992. Andrew is only the 3rd cat.-5 Hurricane to ever make landfall anywhere in the United States since records have been kept. The storm produced sustained winds of 165-MPH with gusts of 220-MPH in parts of South Miami-Dade County.

Here is part-3 of local Television Media Coverage along with The Weather Channel of Hurricane Andrew’s arrival along the Southeast coast of Florida. Hurricane Andrew was a cat.-5 storm which struck the MiamiDade County area between FloridaCity and NorthKendal on August 24th,1992 at around 4:30 in the morning. A wind gust of 164-MPH was registered atop the National Hurricane Center Building located in Coral Gables. The late Bob Weaver, one of the Great WeatherCasters of all time on WTVJ-Channel 4 (CBS) can be seen on this segment at around the 4-minute mark. Bob Weaver did the weather on Channel-4 in Miami from 1949 until he left the station in 2003.

This is part-4 of the local media’s coverage of the arrival of Hurricane Andrew which hit the Homestead-Cutler Ridge area of South MiamiDade County on August 24th, 1992. Former WTVJ channel-4 Weatherman Brian Norcross can be seen throughout most of this segment as he chose to stay on the air for two days stright and forcast the storm when most of the other local Miami TV-Weather-people wimped out and stayed in their houses.
